Small Animal Surgery
We don't take your trust lightly when you choose us for your pet's surgical needs. From pre-anesthetic to post-op care, we ensure your pet is getting the best care and you’re informed every step of the way.
Our Surgical Approach
Pre-Anesthesia
Any animal that undergoes anesthesia in our facility first undergoes a pre-anesthetic check which includes a panel of bloodwork to ensure your pet can appropriately metabolize the anesthetics and safely clot blood. If we detect something of concern, you are called immediately before any further steps are taken with your pet.
Anesthesia
After a successful pre-anesthetic check, we safely move forward. We use a short-acting injectable induction agent that quickly and smoothly induces anesthesia. This minimizes a rocky transition from consciousness to unconsciousness which is common with other methods. It is also quickly metabolized which minimizes any undesirable systemic side effects.
Breathing During Anesthesia
We follow up with placing an endotracheal tube to safely maintain our patient's airways. We can completely control their breathing for them if needed using this approach. Then, the anesthetic state is maintained by inhaled soflurane controlled by a vaporizer and an oxygen flow meter. This protocol allows a quick and smooth recovery from anesthesia.
Post Surgery
When surgery is complete, you will receive a text to give you peace of mind for the rest of the day. When you pick your pet up, the doctor will come in and discuss all details of the surgery, recovery, and any medication with you face to face. At this time any questions can be clearly answered making sure you go home well prepared for recovery!

We stay sharp for our clients.
Dr. Johnson completed an elective course in advanced small animal surgery during his tenure at Mississippi State University. The course provided an additional level of surgical training not offered in the general DVM curriculum.
We provide constant, consistent care.
Our surgeries are performed on a heated operating table with surgical monitoring and a dedicated veterinary nurse watching your pets vitals for the duration of the procedure!
